Love Chemistry: Scientific Explanations

Love is a constellation of emotions and experiences related to a sense of strong affection or profound oneness, we all probably feel in the same or different manners, in different states and ways, to any connections such as to humanity, to nature, animals or things, to other person, to our own self or to any others we interact with. The meaning of love varies relative to context, it's universal definition subjects of considerable debate, enduring speculation and thoughtful introspection while love typically tackled by classifying into types: the passionate love, the romantic love and the committed love.

But why we feel love, why it sometimes have control over our emotions, thinking, act and feelings? Scientific studies (Neuroscience) indicated that a consistent number of chemicals are present in the brain when people testify to feeling love. Our sense smelling plays important role on attractions, our brain constantly releases a certain set of chemicals such as pheromones, dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin we absorb. They act as powerful stimulants to our brain's pleasure center, leading to side-effects such as increase of our heart rates, loss of sleep and appetite, intense feeling of excitement and longing, feelings we naturally feel when we are attracted, research indicates to last from 1 ½ to 3 years. Protein molecule called “nerve growth factor” (NGF) increase its level when we first fall in-love, while the scientific views on human bonding further increased by main bonding chemicals:

Oxytocin (sometimes called the “cuddle chemical”) a hormone correlate with strong pair-bonding during kissing, etc.

Vasopressin, a monogamy molecule hormone responsible on creating intense loving memories, clarity of thought and alertness during our passionate situations.

Endorphin, a calming natural pain killer increase levels in response to touch, positive thoughts see or hear, or in pleasing visual stimulus we see such as “smile”.

Puppy love, commonly known as “crush”, was an informal feelings of love we feel mostly during our adolescence, an emotion which are shallow and transient. The term “fall in love”, “fall” implies many things; an inevitable, strong or uncontrollable, so risky that putting the lover in a state of vulnerability, a process that is irreversible, indication that he or she is ready to change or to start a new life. These initial feelings may develop and bring us to higher state of feelings & maturity and when a combination of intimacy and passion grow will give us ineffable feeling of intense attraction known as romantic love, a feeling which deeply emphasis on our emotions than physical pleasure. While showing love towards someone regardless of his or her actions or beliefs is known as unconditional love, a concept comparable to true love felt on highly committed relationships. Unconditional love is an unlimited way of being, unlimited thoughts and feelings in life that can create any reality we choose to focus our attention upon... expressed infinitely and it's qualities are endless.
